THERAPY

A space to explore, understand and discover new possibilities:

People come to therapy for many different reasons.

You may feel stuck in patterns you don't fully understand, struggle with your confidence or self-worth, find relationships difficult, or experience emotions such as shame, guilt, anxiety or overwhelm.

Sometimes there is a clear reason for seeking counselling. At other times, you may simply feel that something isn't quite right.

Whatever brings you, therapy can be a space to become curious about your experience and understand what may be happening beneath the surface.

Understanding your patterns:

We can explore the ways you think, feel and relate to yourself and others, and begin to notice patterns that may have become familiar over time.

You might find yourself asking:

~ Why do I react like this?

~ Why do I find it so difficult to accept myself?

~ Why do I keep ending up in similar situations?

~ Where did this way of seeing myself come from?

~ What happens inside me when I feel rejected, criticised or not good enough?

Exploring these questions can help you develop a clearer understanding of yourself and how your experiences may have shaped your present way of being.

Why therapy?

Developing self-awareness and self-acceptance

I believe that awareness and acceptance can create the conditions for change.

Rather than seeing difficult parts of yourself as things that need to be fixed or removed, we can explore them with curiosity and compassion.

I pay attention not only to what you think and say, but also to your emotional and bodily experience. Becoming more aware of what happens inside you can sometimes offer another way of understanding experiences that are difficult to put into words.

Over time, therapy may help you to:

~ develop a deeper understanding of yourself and your patterns

~ recognise how earlier experiences may influence your present

~ develop a more compassionate relationship with yourself

~ understand your emotions, including experiences of shame and guilt

~ become clearer about your needs, values and boundaries

~ feel more connected to your body and present-moment experience

~ recognise patterns in your relationships

~ develop greater confidence in making choices that feel authentic to you

What we aim to achieve:

My work is integrative, drawing primarily on person-centred, Gestalt and psychodynamic approaches.

Person-centred therapy informs my emphasis on empathy, acceptance and the therapeutic relationship.

Gestalt therapy brings attention to present-moment experience, including emotions, bodily sensations and what is happening between us in the therapeutic relationship.

Psychodynamic thinking can help us explore how earlier experiences and relationships may continue to influence how you see yourself and relate to others today.

I also draw on transactional analysis, existential and transpersonal perspectives where these offer something meaningful to the work.

I don't see therapy as applying a technique to you. It is a shared process of paying attention, developing awareness and understanding, and discovering what may become possible from there.
